“Flat Belly Made Easy Series” Article 6 of 7: Four of the Best Exercises for Belly Fat

Having a toned and muscular stomach is like wearing a badge of honor. It shows you (and others) that you have put in the work and dedication for your healthy body. It also makes you less prone to injuries caused by a weak core.

There are dozens of muscles around your waist, hips, shoulders, and spine that work to support every move you make. Having a lean waist can be the first step towards a more comfortable and healthy life, especially if you are dealing with back pain.

Here is a few powerful exercises that will get you on your way to a leaner waist and a stronger, more flexible core.

1. Burpee

Everyone hates doing burpees, don’t they? However, they are an explosive exercise that causes you to use a lot of muscles in a compound movement. They’re also great for blasting fat. 10 face-paced, burpees are just as good as a fast-paced 30-second sprint!

2. Mountain Climbers

A mountain climber begins with an ab crunch where you bring one knee into your chest. Mountain climbers work to develop a toned core, improve balance, and will burn a ton of calories. It also builds core stability.

Start in a high plank position, hands placed below your shoulders and your body positioned in a straight line. Make sure your neck stays in line with your body for correct posture. Quickly draw your right knee into your chest and extend the leg back out as you drive your left knee up to your chest. Repeat this movement as quickly as possible, switching from drawing your right knee in, then your left knee.

3. Medicine Ball Slam

Medicine ball slams call for your core to be the powerhouse. You have to slam the ball to the floor which uses a ton of muscles all the way from your neck
to your hips. If you slam the ball quickly it also allows your heartbeat to pick up, burning calories and fat.

4. Dumbbell Overhead Lunges

Adding a dumbbell to your lunges can really up your game in the fat burning arena. The load being lifted over your shoulders allows all the muscles in your core to become fully engaged. It’s a great way to not only grow your core strength but your glutes!
